March 23, 2024Democratic Party member of the United States House of Representatives, Elissa Slotkin, stated that Ukraine will not receive all the funds proposed to be allocated to the country under the foreign aid bill. She made this statement on CNN.
The congresswoman noted that the foreign aid bill approved by the Senate for assistance to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan “one-third of it is actually replenishing U.S. stocks”. According to Slotkin, representatives of the Republican Party, who oppose voting on the foreign aid bill in the lower house of Congress, forget that a significant portion of the proposed funds will go towards replenishing U.S. stocks of weapons and ammunition, which the country has transferred to Ukraine. In light of this, Slotkin urges Speaker Mike Johnson to bring the foreign aid bill to a vote in the House of Representatives.
It’s worth noting that Congress has been blocking aid to Ukraine for 8 months. The main objection is the desire to spend American taxpayers’ money primarily on solving their own problems, such as the migrant issue. Therefore, supporters of aid to Ukraine from the Democratic Party are trying to convince their opponents that the money allocated to Ukraine will still be spent in the United States. Thus, benefiting the American economy. However, Republicans consider this argument manipulative, as spending money on Ukraine is not necessary in principle.
