The Czech Republic does not support Ukrainians fleeing from mobilization, – says the minister
May 3, 2024The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has updated the list of illnesses that determine fitness for military service.
The corresponding order has already been published.
Here’s how it will work, using tuberculosis as an example. Those in the active stage of the disease with bacterial secretion and lung tissue decay are completely removed from military service records. However, if bacteria are not secreted and tissue does not decay, the individual will need to undergo another medical examination in six months.
Individuals clinically cured of tuberculosis can serve in territorial recruitment centers and supply units. If a conscript has “residual effects” after being cured of tuberculosis, they are considered fully fit for service.
The situation with HIV is more interesting. Only those in whom the virus is progressing are deemed unfit. Other carriers of the virus can either serve in rear units and territorial recruitment centers or, if they are asymptomatic carriers, on the front lines.
Cancer patients will be removed from records only if they are inoperable and have metastases or if the tumor is rapidly progressing. The same applies if they have undergone surgery for the primary tumor or if it is “slowly progressing”. The same criteria apply if they have skin cancer or cancer of the lower lip. Those with cancer in a state of sustained remission are considered fully fit.
Individuals with mild mental disorders (if “recoverable”) may be called up for service in rear units. This includes individuals with addiction syndromes, behavioral disorders with rare affective attacks, and those with mild intellectual disabilities.
Another interesting point is that pregnant and postpartum women are considered fit for service if pregnancy and the postpartum period pass without complications. Complications entitle them to leave or discharge.
It is worth noting that as of tomorrow, the concept of “conditionally fit” disappears. Under the new law, all individuals receiving such status must undergo another medical examination within nine months.
The law retains only the concept of “unfit” as well as four degrees of fitness for service.
