November 9, 2023The Ministry of Education of Ukraine supports the call by students of Lviv Polytechnic to dismiss Irina Farion, but it cannot influence the university’s decision.
As reported by Suspline, “The Ministry supports the students’ demands for the university to collaborate with individuals who do not share fundamental values such as human dignity and respect for our defenders,” said the Ministry of Education of Ukraine in response to journalists’ inquiries.
However, it was emphasized that staffing decisions at educational institutions are made independently by the university leadership.
At Lviv Polytechnic, they reiterated that their position remains unchanged – they do not want to dismiss Farion because the offensive remarks she made about Ukrainian soldiers were made outside of working hours.
Previously, it was reported that Lviv Polytechnic faced criticism for refusing to dismiss Farion, and students are calling on the police to intervene. The National University “Lviv Polytechnic” declined to terminate the employment of former Member of Parliament from the “Svoboda” party, Irina Farion, due to her offensive comments about Ukrainian soldiers who speak the Russian language.
