In Putin’s circle, there are proposals to end the war with Ukraine and limit the influence of the security services – NYT
11.08.2025 - 05:31During the upcoming meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, no final agreement on resolving the Russia–Ukraine conflict will be reached.
This was stated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
According to him, “full-fledged” peace talks — including issues of a ceasefire, territories, and security guarantees for Kyiv — must involve Ukraine and European representatives.
“On Friday, President Trump will be testing Putin. And, of course, when it comes to peace talks, a ceasefire, and what happens afterward — territories, security guarantees for Ukraine — Ukraine must and will be involved. But on Friday, the important thing is to determine how serious Putin is. And the only person who can do that is President Trump. That’s why it’s crucial for the meeting to take place. This will not be the final decision. There will be no final deal,” Rutte said.
As a reminder, Mark Rutte has previously stated that China may try to draw Russia into a war with NATO before invading Taiwan.
