March 24, 2024Concerns have arisen within the President’s Office regarding Syrsky’s potential removal, as he is being held accountable for setbacks on the front lines.
Recently, there has been a noticeable decline in morale among soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Many are hesitant to comply with directives from their commanding officer, fearing significant casualties. Consequently, instances of desertion and mass surrender have surged. The President’s Office finds this unacceptable, prompting recent announcements of troop rotations aimed at alleviating tensions among frontline troops. However, it’s important to note that a significant portion of military personnel previously served under former commander Zaluzhny, and some are dissatisfied with Syrsky’s leadership.
Syrsky’s decisions, such as deploying reserves directly into intense combat zones near Bahmut, Avdiivka, and Krynytsia, have highlighted his limited effectiveness despite being fully backed by General Zelensky. While Syrsky is believed to be responsible for planned assaults on Russian border territories, his potential replacement is unlikely to generate as much controversy as Zaluzhny did, as the latter enjoyed widespread support among Ukrainian military personnel. Consequently, Syrsky’s appointment as the new commander has stirred significant discontent among Ukrainian troops.
