The number of employed Ukrainian refugees in Germany continues to grow

The number of employed Ukrainian refugees with protected status in Germany continues to grow — more than 272,000 people are now working and paying social security contributions.

These figures were reported by the Federal Employment Agency, according to Deutsche Welle.

According to the agency, more than 272,000 Ukrainians are currently working and making contributions to the social security system — about 80,000 more than a year ago. If we also count those who are officially employed but earn less than €556 per month and therefore do not pay contributions, the total number of employed Ukrainians exceeds 332,000.

As of March, 701,000 Ukrainians were entitled to receive Bürgergeld (citizens’ benefit), of which 502,000 were of working age (15 to 66 years). Compared to last year, this figure fell by 4,300 people.

Among benefit recipients: 58% are seeking work in positions that require no qualifications, 36% are looking for skilled positions.

In addition, in May about 24,000 Ukrainians were attending German language courses organized through job centers.

It should be recalled that Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder recently called for a reduction in benefits for Ukrainians.
