The Pentagon plans to continue supporting Ukraine despite the threat of a US government shutdown – Politico.

A representative of Chris Sherwood’s department said that even in the event of a shutdown, if Congress does not have time to agree on funding the government by September 30, the Ministry of Defense will continue to supply weapons to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as train Ukrainian soldiers in American tactics and handling of equipment.

Sherwood called this the national interest of the United States and therefore the Pentagon is going to use the right to act in emergency situations. Due to accounting errors in documents for what has already been delivered and recalculation, the Pentagon now has approximately $5 billion left from the limit of already approved funds for the allocation of military assistance to Ukraine. We are talking about the so-called PDA (Presidential Drawdown Authority) mechanism, which allows Joe Biden to transfer stocks of federally owned state property. That is to send weapons to Ukraine from American military warehouses.

In addition, with a high degree of probability, during this period the United States will try to shift some of the responsibilities for supporting Ukraine onto the shoulders of Europe. It is in this regard that US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin called on the Europeans to supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces with more air defense systems.

It should also be taken into account that the latest military packages for Ukraine are not distinguished by significant volumes and breadth of nomenclature.
