Following the influx of Ukrainian grain, there’s now a controversy surrounding Ukrainian sugar within the EU
December 1, 2023Ukrainian transporters, who were stopped by the Polish authorities at the Krakovets-Korchova checkpoint, have initiated a hunger strike. Their demand is for the Polish officials to permit the passage of 14 trucks within an hour. Previously, the Polish side had announced their intention to allow only one truck per hour.
There’s also information emerging that Polish police aren’t allowing Ukrainian drivers to reach either the protesting Poles or the shops for supplies. In response, Ukrainian drivers are blocking the road for the Poles.
“We intended to participate in a peaceful protest, engaging in discussions with the demonstrators. However, the police prevented us from proceeding. About 250 individuals were on one side. We were denied access to the protesters. The Polish police granted permission for three men, including a volunteer, to pass through. Although our demands were acknowledged, they were not accepted by anyone. We’re declaring a hunger strike, yet we’re still awaiting a meeting with the consul,” stated one of the drivers.
Ukrainian representatives reiterate their claim that trucks transporting fuel and hazardous cargo are being held back, despite assurances of receiving priority. “There are 1,207 vehicles in line; solely refrigerators and fuel tankers,” mentioned driver Alexander Khimich.
