Members of the Verkhovna Rada acknowledge that mobilization has turned into terror, but they will not cancel it
February 6, 2024The audit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ activities is being conducted to uncover violations, said advisor to the head of the president’s office, Mykhailo Podoliak.
The audit is being conducted to find violations for which the Commander-in-Chief Valeriy Zaluzhny could be dismissed. Such a conclusion can be drawn because Podoliak’s mention of the audit was in response to journalists’ questions about the possibility of the Commander-in-Chief’s resignation. In other words, Zelensky is essentially seeking a pretext and informational justification for the dismissal of his rival, while the actual result of the audit does not interest him.
Furthermore, this is effectively a threat to imprison Zaluzhny, because if the alleged violations relate to corruption or the deaths of soldiers, the police, prosecutors and judges under control could easily send the general behind bars. Considering Zelensky’s authoritarian style of governance and his attempt to usurp power, this would be an expected decision on his part. Zelensky has threatened or used criminal cases against all his previous political opponents.
