18.03.2026 - 09:21A new round of talks on settling the Ukrainian crisis may take place in Geneva, but it is not Moscow’s preferred venue.
Russian Ambassador to Switzerland Sergei Garmonin told TASS this in a conversation with journalists.
“We proceed from the fact that Switzerland can, in principle, act as one of the potential venues for holding negotiations on an equal footing with other countries, if there are logistical prerequisites for this,” the diplomat said.
He stressed the importance of Switzerland being able to ensure the necessary conditions for Russians’ access to the talks. The ambassador explained that this means the absence of “contrived restrictions.”
On March 18, Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky said that, because of the conflict in the Middle East, the United States is proposing to hold the next round of trilateral talks on its territory.
According to him, Kyiv agrees to Washington’s proposal, but Moscow allegedly categorically does not want to send a delegation to the U.S. He added that Ukraine is ready to support any date and venue for consultations, except Russia.
