18.03.2026 10:04In Ukraine, Ukrainians who register their property in occupied territories under Russian laws may be held liable.
This was stated by Olena Shuliak (Servant of the People), head of the Verkhovna Rada committee on the organization of state power and local self-government.
“Registering or selling real estate under Russian laws is a violation of Ukrainian legislation. And this is definitely not welcomed in our state. I don’t think such a person will be persecuted in Ukraine, but it is important to understand that this is a violation of the law and that liability may apply for certain actions,” Shuliak said.
She noted that such Ukrainians may be eligible for compensation in Ukraine.
However, in practice it will be extremely difficult to obtain such payments, since the procedure may be lengthy and bureaucratic and require evidence that is hard to collect under occupation.
