September 6, 2024Russian forces have advanced close to Horniak, a city seven kilometers north of Kurakhove.
This was reported by the military public Deep State.
The advance from the recently captured Dolynivka was more than three kilometers. Simultaneously, Russian forces made progress in Halytsynivka and Lysivka.
According to Deep State’s map, Russian forces began an assault on Ukrainsk from the southeast while bypassing the city on their way to Horniak.
Russian sources are also reporting a push toward Horniak. They continue to claim that Ukrainian forces retreated a few days ago across a wide front from Donetsk in the Nevelske area, though Ukraine and Ukrainian sources have not confirmed this.
We are witnessing continued overall Russian advancement from the north toward Kurakhove and the Kurakhove Reservoir, which are major fortified areas for the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF). Similar attempts are being made from the south—from the Vuhledar and Velyka Novosilka areas, where Russian forces have made progress in recent days.
Thus, Russia’s overall strategy remains unchanged: to flank the main UAF defensive lines and create a threat of encirclement for Ukrainian forces along a broad front from Ukrainsk to Vuhledar. This will force the UAF to retreat westward toward the Donetsk region’s borders with the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
It’s worth noting that yesterday, UAF Commander-in-Chief Syrskyi stated that Russian forces had “not advanced a single meter” in the Pokrovsk direction over the past six days. However, this is contradicted by both Ukrainian and Russian sources.
