March 12, 2024The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained a military serviceman who, at the behest of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), attempted to poison the command staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Zaporizhzhia direction.
This was reported by the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the soldier planned to add a poisonous substance to the water of the bath-laundry complex used by the command staff of the AFU in Zaporizhzhia. However, he was exposed and apprehended in the preparation stage.
It has been established that the Russian Federation recruited him through blackmail, kidnapping the man’s parents who reside in the occupied territory of Luhansk region. The victims were subjected to brutal torture, demanding that they persuade their son to work for Russia.
Further communication between the soldier and his Russian “handler” took place through an anonymous chat in a messenger app. During the search, the detainee’s mobile phone used to communicate with the organizers, was seized.
Moreover, during the investigation, the Security Service discovered that the perpetrator was carrying out another task – gathering intelligence for the FSB on the locations and movements of Ukrainian Armed Forces units at the front line.
