March 12, 2024Restrictions on the publication of the results of enemy attacks by drones or missiles, as well as the actions of Russian military personnel, were introduced into the State Duma by senators for consideration as early as August 2023 – after a series of attacks on Moscow and the Crimean Bridge. However, the adoption of these laws has been postponed, according to Kommersant.
Journalists have learned that this proposal did not find understanding in the Administration of the President. Therefore, the Kremlin decided not to complicate the work of war correspondents and military bloggers, with whom Putin regularly meets.
It is worth noting that in Ukraine, a similar ban has been in place throughout the war. Ukrainian authorities prosecute with criminal charges all bloggers or ordinary social media users for publishing videos of air defense systems or the consequences of enemy rocket attacks. Such a decision is perceived as censorship and falsehood. Often, Russian rockets destroy military or infrastructure objects, and this is captured on video, but Ukrainian officials continue to claim that all rockets were intercepted.
