November 9, 2023The State Bureau of Investigations of Ukraine has announced suspicions against an officer from the apparatus of the Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who had given grenades to the assistant of the Chief of the General Staff, Gennady Chastyakov, which resulted in his death due to an explosion on his birthday.

The name of the suspect is not mentioned in the statement, but according to journalists, it is referring to the Senior Aide to the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel A.V. Timchenko.
It has been established that the officer acquired 8 hand-held universal assault-defensive grenades DM 51A2 without the required authorization and brought them into his office. Subsequently, he packed six of them in a gift wooden box and placed a bottle of strong alcohol inside. He presented this box as a birthday gift to the military serviceman Gennady Chastyakov. With these actions, the officer effectively engaged in the sale of explosive devices, as stated in the message from the State Bureau of Investigations of Ukraine.
The officer had left two more grenades in his possession, which were found in a cabinet in his office. He is being charged with the acquisition, possession, carrying, and sale of explosive devices without the legal authorization as specified in Article 263, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
