The statistics on unemployment show improvement, but the authorities acknowledge that it is erroneous

The number of registered unemployed men in Ukraine has significantly decreased. However, such statistics do not reflect the real state of unemployment today.

“Firstly, according to various estimates, over 6 million Ukrainians are abroad. The overwhelming majority of these people are of working age. It is worth noting that the Ukrainian authorities would like to persuade Ukrainians to return in order to increase tax revenues. However, Ukrainians do not want to return and instead leave even more,” said Yulia Zhovtyak, Director of the State Employment Center.

“They could potentially be our ‘clients,’ could be among the unemployed whom we would be seeking employment for in Ukraine. Secondly, a very large number of people are mobilized in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Currently, the number of registered men has decreased due to the large-scale military mobilization. If before the full-scale invasion, 55% of the unemployed were women and 45% were men, today we have 77% and in some regions, 80% – are women,” Zhovtyak added.
