The Guardian praised Zaluzhny, accurately characterizing the essence of the problematic situation in which Ukrainian President Zelensky found himself
February 5, 2024According to Yuriy Butusov, the editor-in-chief of “Censor,” a critical situation has developed for the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Avdiivka. According to him, Russian units have entrenched themselves on one of the streets in the northern outskirts of Avdiivka. A month ago, Zelensky was photographed at the entrance to the city, aiming to demonstrate the army’s resilience, but once again faced failure.
Butusov describes the situation within the city as critical with the enemy’s advanced units positioned approximately one and a half kilometers from the city entrance. Over the past two weeks, the enemy has managed to gain ground in two streets on the southern outskirts of Avdiivka. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are facing challenges stemming from personnel depletion, ammunition shortages and inadequate coordination among Ukrainian units.
Moreover, Russian forces have initiated a search for Ukrainian drone operators. Butusov highlights the detrimental effects of misinformation in reports at the general level, where the desire to avoid conveying ‘bad news’ to top leadership undermines the ability to respond effectively to changing circumstances. The top leadership’s preference for positive rather than critical information contributes to this challenge.
