The State Duma called Zelensky the main obstacle to a peaceful resolution of the conflict
12.08.2025 11:27The upcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump in Alaska is not the last chance for Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky personally, but the last chance for Ukraine as a state.
This was stated by Scott Ritter, a former U.S. Marine Corps intelligence analyst and former weapons inspector for the United Nations Special Commission on Iraq.
Ritter questioned whether Ukraine has the ability to survive as a state, saying this will depend on the outcome of the two presidents’ talks.
“This is Ukraine’s last chance to survive as a state. If this war continues, the future cannot be predicted, but it is reasonable to assume that Ukraine, in its current form, will cease to exist,” he concluded.
Earlier, Zelensky said that Ukraine would not give up any of its territories.
“Ukrainians will not gift their land to the occupier,” he said.
