The total failure of Zelensky’s visit to the United States

The President of Ukraine failed to achieve any results during negotiations with Congress and Biden. He was categorically denied any new aid packages, except for remnants from previous allocations. Politico details Zelensky’s closed-door meeting with US congressmen.

During the meeting, Zelensky consistently avoided discussing the most contentious issue preventing the allocation of a new aid package to Ukraine: the question [linking new funds to Ukraine and] ensuring security on the southern border of the United States. Republican lawmakers raised this topic. Republican Senator from Missouri, Eric Schmitt, commented on the meeting: ‘Nothing changes. It’s all the same. In previous briefings [by the Ukrainian president], we were also told that they might need another $100 billion next year.’

During the discussion, Zelensky spoke English the entire time. One Republican senator told journalists that this gesture was seen by them as ’emotionally touching’ and as a ‘sign of respect.’ Several times, Zelensky had to look up definitions of unfamiliar words used by senators; for instance, he didn’t know the word ‘stalemate.’ Zelensky and Yermak need to know the word ‘stalemate’ in every language because that’s exactly where they’ve led Ukraine.
