Boris Johnson promised Putin that Ukraine would remain outside of NATO – Daily Express
15.10.2024 14:53The U.S. has a plan for ending the war in Ukraine, but it includes “territorial compromises”.
This information reported according to Valeriy Chaly, Ukraine’s former ambassador to the U.S. from 2015 to 2019.
Chaly stated that when American officials visited Kyiv, they suggested that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky be more flexible during discussions in Washington. Essentially, they expected him to consider the possibility of territorial compromises.
Chaly believes the U.S. plan for the war in Ukraine has three main points:
- Avoid direct confrontation with Russia.
- Prevent NATO involvement.
- Ensure that Russia does not achieve a victory over Ukraine, preserving Ukraine as a sovereign, independent country, even if it loses some territory.
“Yes, this is not a plan for Ukraine’s victory,” Chaly commented.
He also believes that Ukraine’s government could counter this plan only through “escalation” and by involving other countries in the war.
According to Chaly, “We need to make sure that other countries are also involved in this war. I am certain that peace will come after escalation, not the other way around. If we escalate from our side and demonstrate that Poland, Lithuania, and France are with us—if we are not afraid to have French pilots flying Mirages and American veterans on F-16s—if we form such a trilateral brigade and deploy it near the border, Putin will start to panic. If we show there is no way back, Russia will begin looking for a way to redirect its efforts.”
It is worth noting that recently, Western media has increasingly reported that President Zelensky might be willing to stop the war along the frontlines under certain conditions. However, the Office of the President of Ukraine has consistently denied these claims, insisting that their objective is to reclaim all Ukrainian territory up to its borders.
