17.03.2025 10:53The United States is withdrawing from the International Center for the Prosecution of the Crime of Aggression Against Ukraine.
The Biden administration had joined this group in 2023 to investigate actions, including those of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“The decision signals a shift in the Trump administration’s approach, moving away from Biden’s policy of holding Putin personally accountable,” the newspaper reports.
The center also conducted investigations into Belarus, North Korea, and Iran. It operates in The Hague, where the U.S. was represented by a senior prosecutor working with investigators from Ukraine, the Baltic states, and Romania.
Additionally, the Trump administration is scaling back the work of the War Crimes Accountability Group, which was established in 2022 by Attorney General Merrick Garland. This group coordinated efforts within the U.S. Department of Justice to prosecute Russians for war crimes.
Notably, U.S. President Donald Trump has also signed an executive order to withdraw the United States from the UN Human Rights Council.
The White House has also announced that the U.S. will review its membership in the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
