The U.S. State Department expects concrete peace proposals from Ukraine and Russia. If none are presented, it will withdraw from the process

Russia and Ukraine must present concrete proposals for peace in the near future. If there is no progress, the United States will withdraw from the negotiation process.

This was stated by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

His message was echoed by U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, who also confirmed that the U.S. will exit the Ukraine negotiation process as a mediator if tangible progress toward peace is not achieved.

“I want to share what the Secretary of State told me about the current situation. We are now at the stage where both sides must present specific proposals for ending the conflict. What happens next is a decision that now lies with the president. If there’s no progress, we will step back from our role as mediators in this process,” Bruce said.

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt stated that U.S. President Donald Trump remains optimistic about ending the war in Ukraine, though he approaches the situation with realism.

According to her, resolving the conflict in Ukraine is an “extremely difficult task.”

As a reminder, last night Trump’s national security adviser Michael Waltz also stated that Russia and Ukraine must act quickly to reach a peace agreement — or risk Trump losing patience.
