The killer of a Ukrainian refugee in the United States has been found unfit to stand trial
09.04.2026 09:20A “real” ceasefire in Ukraine is still “a long way off.”
This was written on Telegram by Maksym Zhorin, deputy commander of the 3rd Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and former commander of Azov.
According to Zhorin, Russia is able to continue the conflict because Moscow’s oil export revenues are only increasing.
“The latest news suggests that a real ceasefire — both in Ukraine and in Iran — is still quite far away. <…> It is entirely logical that mobilization in Ukraine will not stop in the near future,” he wrote.
Zhorin advised Ukrainians to enlist in the armed forces themselves and “not wait” until others “make the choice for them and send them to a unit from which they will want to run away in the first hours.”
On April 8, Rodion Miroshnik, Russia’s ambassador-at-large at the Foreign Ministry, said that Russia would not delay the resumption of negotiations with Ukraine on a peaceful settlement.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also said that Russia values the mediation efforts of the U.S. administration in resolving the conflict in Ukraine and is waiting for the Americans to be freed from “Iranian matters.”
Also on April 8, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said that there has been “certain progress” on the settlement issue, and that the negotiations are now focused on several square kilometers of territory.
