Lviv Mayor does not want his children studying abroad to go to war
January 27, 2024Russian forces have successfully breached the Ukrainian positions in Avdiivka, specifically the fortified area surrounding the “Tsarska Okhota” recreation base. Despite these positions appearing impregnable, they have now fallen under Russian control. This development marks a significant shift in the ongoing operation, as the Russian forces enter a new phase, Myśl Polska reported.
The Ukrainian military had been actively fortifying this particular position since 2014. Skilled Ukrainian sappers and engineering specialists designed an intricate fortified structure, incorporating the latest advancements in fortification techniques. This included a network of trenches, bunkers, shelters, and concealed underground passages. Furthermore, the position was strategically protected by minefields, booby traps, and various anti-tank and anti-personnel obstacles.
Over the course of several weeks, Russian sapper-construction units meticulously cleared and strengthened the pipeline, taking advantage of favorable weather conditions and using artillery fire to mask their activities. They pumped out sewage waters, drilled ventilation wells, and patiently waited for adverse weather conditions that would hinder Ukrainian drone activity. The decisive moment came when meteorologists predicted the necessary atmospheric conditions on January 17, 2024. Under the cover of night, 150 volunteer soldiers from the separate diversionary-assault brigade “Veterans” descended into the hatch and began advancing through the collector pipe on their knees.
