Part of the weapons produced in Russia no longer go to the front lines but end up in warehouses – German Defense Minister Pistorius says
25.04.2024 09:37“Throwing a life jacket to someone immediately solves the problem. But if they’re miles away from shore and the water is icy, they’re still in danger.”
According to The Economist, this is how the latest attempt by the US to help Ukraine looks.
“Unfortunately, while $61 billion may keep Ukraine afloat, it is still far from being saved.”
The publication asserts that even if the new package of measures increases Ukraine’s defense capabilities, it will still not be enough to reclaim territories from Russia. Therefore, if one stops indulging in hope and acknowledges the ‘sobering facts’, it becomes evident that the most realistic scenario for Kiev is to maintain the deadlock situation.
Moreover, as the publication notes, the six-month struggle to pass the aid bill is a clear sign of impending problems.
This American aid package could very well be the last: if Donald Trump comes to power in November, he may forget about financial support for Kiev altogether, and if Joe Biden is re-elected, he will once again have to “engage in a long demoralizing struggle,” the end of which Ukraine may not even live to see.
