Tension is “growing” in Ukrainian society due to mobilization – The Wall Street Journal
28.10.2024 - 11:01J.D. Vance, the Republican vice-presidential candidate, has called for negotiations with Vladimir Putin to “end the war in Ukraine.”
He made this statement during an interview with NBC.
Vance described the Russian president as an “adversary” and “competitor,” but refrained from labeling him an “enemy,” emphasizing the need to “be smart in diplomacy.”
“Just because we don’t like someone doesn’t mean we can’t engage in negotiations from time to time. And I think that if we are ever going to end the war in Ukraine, at some level, we will need negotiations involving Ukraine, Russia, and our NATO allies in Europe. It’s simply a necessary part,” stated the Republican candidate.
He also mentioned that he does not wish to engage in conflict with Russia.
“I don’t want to go to war with Putin’s Russia. I think we should try to seek paths to peace. I would also consider China a competitor, but we are not at war with China either. In my view, China represents the greatest threat to the United States,” Vance added.
It’s worth noting that Vance has previously stated that Ukraine should relinquish some of its territories to end the war with Russia.
