The front in the Kurakhiv direction is collapsing, Russian troops are advancing confidently – military official
November 26, 2024U.S. President Joe Biden “is acutely aware of the risk that Vladimir Putin could potentially use nuclear weapons if he feels threatened.” However, he has allowed Ukraine to carry out long-range strikes on Russia, believing that this will strengthen Kyiv’s position ahead of expected negotiations.
This was reported by The Washington Post, citing sources.
Many American officials believe that within a few months, Ukraine could be “drawn into” negotiations with Russia to end the war, “they might be forced to give up territories,” and military aid will be sharply reduced.
American and European officials are also convinced that the permission for long-range strikes should have been given earlier, as Russia now feels a “sense of impunity” and understands that the Americans do not want escalation.
At the same time, U.S. intelligence agencies informed Biden that the ATACMS could provoke a “sharp response” from Putin. However, long-range strikes were ultimately approved in an attempt to deter North Korea from sending additional troops to the war.
It is worth noting that among Donald Trump’s supporters, there is a different interpretation of Biden’s decision to authorize Ukraine to strike Russian territory: to make it harder to reach any agreements on quickly ending the war in Ukraine after Trump’s inauguration.
Recall that yesterday, the White House confirmed for the first time that it had authorized Ukraine to strike Russia with ATACMS missiles.
The U.S. administration also provided the Ukrainian army with instructions on how to choose targets for the ATACMS strikes.
