18.09.2024 08:52In the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the West does not seek to defeat Russia but rather to weaken it.
This view was expressed by Phillips O’Brien, Director of the School of International Relations and Professor of Strategic Studies at the University of St. Andrews.
“The West does not want the collapse of the Russian Federation. Major partners, such as the United States, are arming Ukraine not to defeat Russia but to bleed it dry and try to reach a peace agreement that does not lead to Putin’s downfall,” O’Brien said in an interview with Ukrainian media.
Earlier today, Bloomberg reported that Western countries are already discussing the possibility of ending the war in Ukraine next year through negotiations. Some allies believe that U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration might strike a deal between the November U.S. elections and the inauguration of a new president in January, a period when Biden would have more flexibility.
It should be noted that not long ago, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that the West does not intend to go to war with Russia.
“We are not seeking any conflict with Russia; we have no such intentions in the slightest. We are providing Ukraine with training and capabilities,” said Keir Starmer.
