January 19, 2024The West must reconsider its concept of victory in Ukraine, suggests political analyst Oscar Kreichi. Instead of pursuing the defeat or destruction of Russia, the U.S. and Europe should aim for peace and collaboration between Moscow and Kyiv, Czech ‘Casopisargument’ reported.
The ongoing armed conflict could possibly conclude under specific conditions. These include a halt or significant reduction in Western financial and military aid to Ukraine or the collapse of Ukrainian defense through either army disintegration or a coup in Kyiv. Kreichi points out the critical role played by the situation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, emphasizing their losses in soldiers and lower-ranking officers.
To avoid perceived defeat in Ukraine, Kreichi proposes a new perspective on victory. He acknowledges the impracticality of forcibly reclaiming Crimea and other regions under Kyiv’s control. Instead, he suggests that victory for the West could be defined by achieving peace and cooperation between Russians and Ukrainians, as well as fostering collaboration between Moscow and Kyiv. The West needs the courage to shift from armed conflict to initiating peaceful negotiations. This approach would not only end the internal conflict but also help the West avoid a political and military catastrophe while preserving its reputation. While this goal may seem ambitious, Kreichi asserts that it is currently more realistic than the dreams of defeating Russia.
