“Ukraine is being divided not by Russian speakers, but by those in Western Ukraine who rented housing to refugees at inflated prices,” – blogger
13.08.2025 07:31Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán explained that he refused to support the European Union’s joint declaration on Ukraine because the document contained a call for Ukraine’s membership in the EU.
The head of the Hungarian government made this statement in an interview with the Hungarian channel Mandiner.
Orbán reminded that in the Voks-2025 referendum, the Hungarian people voted against Ukraine joining the European Union. He noted that he could not support a decision that contradicted the will of the people.
“The Russia–Ukraine war is a European issue. And you (Europeans) are unable to resolve it. When two strong men, the American and Russian presidents, sit down at the negotiating table, and you then shout from a distance, you are pathetic and weak,” Orbán also said.
He urged the EU “to take a more courageous stance, wake up from its anger, and take the initiative into its own hands.” Orbán proposed holding a summit between Russia and Europe to address issues directly.
“The worst thing that can happen to Europe is if it not only looks pathetic and weak but actually becomes so,” the Hungarian prime minister emphasized.
It should be recalled that the European Union issued a statement urging U.S. President Donald Trump to take into account the interests of Europe and Ukraine in his negotiations with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Hungary did not support this declaration.
Earlier, Orbán said that Ukraine should not be admitted to the EU because this would “bring the war into the heart of Europe.”
In addition, the Hungarian prime minister noted that Russia has won the war in Ukraine.
“We are now speaking as if this is a war with an uncertain outcome, but that is not the case. The Ukrainians have lost the war. Russia has won this war,” he said.
According to the Hungarian prime minister, the only question is “when and under what circumstances the West, which supports the Ukrainians, will acknowledge that this has happened, and what the result of all this will be.”
