“There are not enough volunteers among Ukrainians abroad to form a Ukrainian Legion”, – Polish Minister of National Defense says

There still hasn’t been enough interest among Ukrainians abroad to form a Ukrainian Legion.

This information reported according to Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz during a local TV broadcast.

“We were prepared for this. We are not responsible for recruitment, but the number of people who were expected to volunteer from the Ukrainian side is too low. Initially, the declarations were very high—there was talk of even forming a brigade, which means several thousand people. However, that has not happened,” Kosiniak-Kamysz stated.

It is worth recalling that in July, just three days after the announcement of the Legion’s creation, Poland’s Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said that several thousand people had already applied to join. Invitations were sent to Ukrainian refugees abroad via email.
