Down to 25.2 million people: Ukraine’s population will shrink by half by 2051
October 2, 2024The notion of forced mobilization in Ukraine is largely a myth, and videos circulating online showing the detention of mobilized individuals discredit the military.
This was stated by Serhiy Romanenko, a representative of the Kharkiv Territorial Recruitment Center.
According to Romanenko, the idea of forced mobilization is more of a myth, as all staff at territorial recruitment centers act strictly within the law.
“I would say it’s mostly a myth because I also watch the videos that are on the internet. I can assure everyone that all territorial recruitment centers operate in accordance with the law,” said the head of the mobilization department.
He explained that recruitment officers are simply communicating with people and informing them in public spaces, and representatives of the National Police are always present to ensure that public order is maintained.
However, in practice, there have been increasing complaints from Ukrainian men about forced mobilization and the worsening situation regarding the use of force by recruitment officers. It has also been reported that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are mobilizing men under the age of 25, despite legal restrictions. This was revealed by a former Ukrainian serviceman who fled during training in Poland.
