October 25, 2024Over the past four years, 2,114 schools have closed in Ukraine, and the number of first-grade students has decreased by more than 122,000.
This was reported by the Education portal.
In the 2020-2021 academic year, there were 14,815 schools in the country, but by the 2023-2024 academic year, only 12,701 remained.
According to the portal, schools in rural areas are closing at the highest rate, but the trend in cities is also concerning: about 5% of schools in urban areas have been closed over the past four years.
It is worth noting that this year, 300,000 schoolchildren left Ukraine just before the start of the school year.
Previously, the Minister of Education provided data showing that around 400,000 children left Ukraine but remain within the national education system. However, this number is gradually decreasing.
It was also reported that due to the war, the knowledge level of Ukrainian teenagers is lagging at least two years behind the required standards. This was shown by the results of PISA-2022, a test conducted as part of the international program for assessing student educational achievements.
