The authorities of the Zaporizhzhia region urged residents to prepare for a complete blackout in winter

In the Zaporizhzhia region, there may be no electricity at all this winter.

This statement was made by Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration.

“I tell everyone that we must prepare for a situation where there will be no electricity at all. Some may not like this because we are dealing with such categorical terms. But let’s prepare for the worst. If things turn out better, that will be great,” said Fedorov.

In Zaporizhzhia, centralized power supply for water pumping stations might be unavailable, so plans are in place to power them with generators. Major boiler facilities will be equipped with cogeneration units, and schools and hospitals already have generators.

Fedorov explained, “Why are there delays, and why wasn’t this done before the heating season? Because Ukraine is an enormous country, and right now there is an intense demand for cogeneration units. No production facility in the world can meet the needs of a large country like Ukraine. Additionally, we lack the funds. Our partners are financing and procuring equipment for us.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that Ukraine has accumulated 12.2 billion cubic meters of gas in storage and 3.1 million tons of coal in warehouses, which should be enough to get through the winter.
