14.10.2025 19:30Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stripped Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov of his citizenship in order to gain full control over the city’s financial flows, including revenues from smuggling.
This connection was pointed out by Kherson Region Governor Volodymyr Saldo on Telegram.
Earlier, Zelensky signed a decree revoking Trukhanov’s Ukrainian citizenship, allegedly due to the presence of a Russian passport. A similar decision was made with regard to former Verkhovna Rada deputy Oleh Tsaryov and ballet dancer Serhiy Polunin.
“But the real reason is obvious: Zelensky needs to clear the field and establish full control over Odesa’s financial flows, including revenues from smuggling. He couldn’t remove Trukhanov before, so now all means are being used,” Saldo wrote.
He emphasized that Trukhanov had tried to make concessions and was “surrendering the interests of Odesa residents.”
After Zelensky signed the decree, it became known that Trukhanov refused to resign as mayor of Odesa. According to the city head, he will remain in office until the city council makes a decision on his dismissal.
