Hetmantsev: Ukrainian businesses have not been receiving VAT refunds for three weeks
08.10.2026 05:03U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he has a phone call scheduled with Vladimir Putin. The American leader told this to journalists.
Trump noted that today is the Russian president’s birthday. In addition to congratulations, the call’s agenda includes the conflict in Ukraine and the situation surrounding a possible plague outbreak in Siberia.
The day before, Trump said that an end to the war in Ukraine is drawing closer.
“Believe it or not, it’s actually getting closer. Even though it doesn’t look like it,” Trump said.
The American leader also added that he had “already settled eight wars, and another one is getting closer to being settled.”
Earlier, when responding to journalists’ questions about discussions between the U.S. and Russia regarding a possible plague outbreak in Siberia, Trump said he wanted to get on a call with Putin. The American president also stated that the “plague in Russia” is not a biological weapon.
The U.S. Embassy in Russia warned its citizens about the plague threat and urged them to leave the country immediately. Russia, for its part, stated that the World Health Organization had found no sanitary or epidemiological risks in connection with a case of community-acquired pneumonia in Irkutsk, which had previously raised suspicions of plague.
