28.10.2026 07:02US President Donald Trump is considering an application to lift sanctions on the Russian Direct Investment Fund, which is headed by Russian presidential special envoy Kirill Dmitriev.
This is reported by The New York Times, citing sources familiar with the negotiations.
According to the publication, the fund proposed mediating deals for the sale of Russian diesel to Americans.
In 2022, the Joe Biden administration called the fund the “wallet” of Russian President Vladimir Putin and imposed sanctions against it. Now the Trump administration is considering an application to lift them.
One US official confirmed that the White House administration is reviewing the fund’s application to lift sanctions as part of efforts aimed at “improving relations with Russia and helping to end the war.” Economic deals with Moscow are expected to help end the war.
At the same time, the US Treasury Department said that the fund has already received the necessary permits for operations with Russian diesel.
Separately, the department is considering the issue of fully lifting the sanctions — for this, the fund must prove that the reasons for their imposition are no longer relevant.
Earlier, Dmitriev himself had already stated that Russia is discussing draft agreements with the US not only on diesel fuel but also in many other areas.
