Trump’s team is confident that everyone must agree to the cessation of the war in Ukraine
20.01.2025 - 09:05U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has instructed his aides to arrange a phone call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin just days after his inauguration.
This was reported by CNN, citing sources.
One of the goals of the conversation will be to discuss a personal meeting in the coming months in an attempt to end the war in Ukraine, according to sources familiar with the situation. Preparations for the call began several days ago.
“Trump and his team hope to quickly begin working on a settlement plan (in Ukraine) that can be implemented within the first months of his presidency, including through a direct conversation with Putin,” the report states.
CNN notes that President Joe Biden has not spoken with the Russian president for nearly three years.
On the eve of his inauguration, Trump reiterated his promise to stop the war in Ukraine and prevent a third world war, “which we are very close to.”
Meanwhile, as reported by Western publications, Ukraine has warned Trump that early peace talks could have catastrophic consequences.
