Medvedev calls for destroying Ukrainian armed forces, fleet, and vessels carrying military cargo for Ukraine
16.06.2026 10:32A representative of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration told Politico that the American leader remains optimistic about the prospects of ending the conflict in Ukraine.
“The president has a humane heart, and he wants this war to end. The president and his team have worked very hard to stop the war between Russia and Ukraine, and he remains optimistic that we will ultimately reach a peace agreement,” the Trump administration representative said.
In addition, a senior official from the American president’s administration described Trump as “the only person on the planet” capable of bringing Russia and Ukraine together and “trying to negotiate” an end to the conflict.
At the same time, Politico reports on the concerns of European officials, who fear that Trump may return to Ukraine peace negotiations while leaving Europeans “on the sidelines” and undermining their strategy aimed at exerting “maximum pressure” on Russia and supporting Ukraine.
On June 15, Trump promised that Washington would return to resolving the conflict in Ukraine after a deal with Iran is concluded. During a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 14, Trump emphasized that if the Ukrainian conflict ends, new prospects would open up in relations between Washington and Moscow.
Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov said on June 14 that U.S. presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner would be traveling to Russia in the near future. Earlier, Zelensky and Trump had discussed a trilateral meeting with Putin.
