30.04.2024 - 17:58Former US President Donald Trump is threatening to cease assistance to Ukraine if Europe does not increase its share of this aid.
The US presidential candidate made this statement in an interview with Time magazine.
“I won’t give if Europe doesn’t start footing the bill. If Europe isn’t going to pay, why should we pay?” Trump rhetorically questioned.
He believes that the war in Ukraine has caused more harm to Europe itself than to the United States.
“It has affected them (Europeans) much more. There’s an ocean between us. There’s no such thing between them (Europe and Ukraine),” he added.
Lately, Trump has been making constant statements regarding assistance to Kyiv. In mid-April, he said the same thing as in the Time interview: namely, that Ukraine’s survival is important to the US, but Europe is much more interested in this and should increase its aid.
A few days later, he supported Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson, who put aid to Ukraine to a vote, arguing that he structured part of the aid in the form of concessional loans.
