U.S. intelligence raises possibility of Russian strike on Europe before end of war in Ukraine
07.08.2026 10:00U.S. President Donald Trump said that progress is being made on resolving the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
A recording of his remarks was published on the C-Span portal.
“I think we are seeing progress. I have settled eight wars,” Trump said.
At the same time, the American president acknowledged that the conflict turned out to be more difficult than he had expected: according to him, he had assumed it would be “one of the easiest,” but it ultimately “turned out to be the most difficult.”
Earlier, Alexei Fadeyev, deputy director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Department of Information and Press, said that the inconsistency of statements by U.S. representatives on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is linked to Kyiv’s inability to negotiate.
On August 3, Thomas Graham, the leading White House expert on Russia in the administration of former U.S. President George W. Bush, said that Trump may miss a “window of opportunity” for settling the conflict. According to Graham, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky have in recent months expressed interest in resuming negotiations involving the United States, but the parties will not “wait forever.”
