‘There are no longer any volunteers willing to go to the front in Ukraine’, – The New York Times reports
29.01.2024 09:25Candidate for President of the United States, Donald Trump, is opposing new aid to Ukraine and is exerting pressure on Republican members of Congress regarding this matter.
“Given Trump’s influence among supporters in the House of Representatives and the pressure Trump is exerting on House Speaker Mike Johnson, it’s nearly impossible to see a path to compromise through Congress. This would be terrible news for Ukraine, as the immigration package is tied to President Biden’s request for $60 billion in aid to Kyiv to combat Russia’s invasion. Trump also opposes this measure,” the article states.
Additionally, according to journalists, the former president is urging Republicans to delay this issue until a possible victory in the presidential elections.
“Trump is urging Republicans to back away from the agreement partly because he wants to campaign on this issue in November 2024 and does not want Joe Biden to win in an area where he is politically vulnerable,” sources noted.
Earlier, the Financial Times reported that American aid to Ukraine this year is hanging by a thread as Trump tries to derail a deal in Congress linking increased funding for Ukraine with tighter immigration controls.
It was also reported that Republicans may slow down the allocation of money to Ukraine until the US elections.
