November 11, 2024U.S. President-elect Donald Trump announced that he plans to appoint Congresswoman Elise Stefanik as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.
This information reported by CNN.
“It is an honor for me to nominate Chairwoman Elise Stefanik to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations in my administration. Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart supporter of the ‘America First’ movement,” Trump said.
Previously, Stefanik, who in 2014 became the youngest person ever elected to the House of Representatives, did not particularly support key votes concerning Ukraine. Specifically, she, along with other Trump-aligned congress members, voted against new aid for Ukraine in April 2024. At that time, Stefanik stated that while she “strongly supported Ukraine’s right to defend itself with lethal aid, including weapons, ammunition, and training, she could not back billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars for non-lethal aid while Joe Biden failed to address the crisis at our southern border.”
Stefanik has Czech and Italian roots and is a Catholic. After graduating from Harvard, Elise joined the administration of George W. Bush. In 2009, she founded the blog American Maggie, a platform to promote “conservative and Republican” views, named after British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
As a young political figure, Stefanik helped prepare the Republican platform in 2012 while serving as director of new media for Tim Pawlenty’s presidential exploratory committee and working with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and foreign policy initiatives. Stefanik also led the preparation of Congressman Paul Ryan for the 2012 presidential debates. Following the defeat of the Ryan-Romney ticket, she returned to upstate New York to join her family’s business, which deals in building materials, including plywood.
