“Sluga Naroda” calculated how many years it will take to pay Ukrainians compensation for destroyed housing
November 11, 2024Former German Finance Minister Christian Lindner, who was dismissed from his position, aimed to allocate funds intended for German pension payments to aid Ukraine.
This was stated by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in an interview with ARD.
“There aren’t many countries that can afford to provide more than 12 billion euros in support to another country that is at war, while saying, ‘We will do this at the expense of the budget.’ We tried that several times. But now we’ve reached a point where, according to the former finance minister’s plans, financing was to come from reducing pensions, taking money from local communities, and using funds needed for modernizing our own country. Among the proposals was to slightly alter the pension calculation formula, which, ultimately, always means cutting pensions. Should our citizens, pensioners, have to pay for this? The answer is no,” Scholz declared.
Julian Röpcke, a military analyst for Bild, commented on Scholz’s words, noting that “the German chancellor has begun to pit German pensioners against military aid to Ukraine.”
