15.01.2025 - 14:40Advisors to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump “acknowledge that resolving the war in Ukraine will take months or even longer.”
This was reported by Reuters, citing two associates of the president-elect.
According to the publication, Trump’s advisors support the idea of excluding the prospect of Ukraine’s NATO membership in the near future and freezing the current frontline.
Additionally, they propose creating a demilitarized zone on Ukrainian territory, to be patrolled by European troops. It should be noted that Russia opposes the deployment of Western troops in Ukraine even after the war ends. Several European countries have stated that they would only deploy peacekeepers with the consent of both warring parties, including Russia.
Last week, Trump’s special representative, Keith Kellogg, stated that reaching a peace agreement could take up to 100 days.
The day before, the U.S. president-elect announced his intention to “very quickly” meet with Putin, stating that his strategy will depend on the outcome of this meeting.
