“Zelensky’s rudeness toward Trump damages Ukraine-U.S. relations,” said Medvedchuk
24.02.2025 - 16:39The United States does not foresee a situation where Ukraine joins NATO and American troops participate in its defense.
This statement said Michael Waltz, National Security Advisor to Donald Trump, in an interview with Fox News.
“I do not see the United States making Ukraine a NATO member and then immediately having American troops obligated under Article 5 or directly involved in defending Ukraine. I want to make this clear,” Waltz stated.
He emphasized that while the U.S. remains committed to security guarantees for NATO members, security guarantees for Ukraine are ‘a completely different matter.’
Waltz also added that Ukraine’s NATO membership is not a priority for Washington.
In mid-February, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham called for arming Ukraine and guaranteeing its NATO membershipin the event of another Russian attack.
Meanwhile, Russia recently demanded not only that Ukraine be denied NATO membership but also that the Alliance annul the 2008 Bucharest Summit declaration, which had promised Kyiv future membership without specifying a timeline.
