“Homes and hospitals be damned, the main thing is military spending”: Britain to increase defense spending to 3.5% of GDP by 2035
11.09.2026 17:04Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that high energy prices are making Europe uncompetitive compared to the world’s largest economies.
According to him, the EU needs to abandon the approach under which European countries are forced to compete with the US and China under current conditions.
“There is nothing to debate. We can relegate to the realm of fairy tales any dreams of competing with China or the US if energy prices remain as they are now. The European Union cannot afford to remain naive for a single day longer,” Tusk said at a press conference following the Visegrád Group summit.
The summit took place on September 10. Following its conclusion, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia agreed to jointly oppose EU measures that could lead to higher fuel and electricity costs.
Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar additionally demanded that the European Union provide compensation for the consequences of abandoning Russian energy resources.
