March 13, 2024According to the survey data from “Rating,” 70% of surveyed Ukrainians have close relatives who have fought or are fighting on the front lines since the Russian invasion.
Moreover, in the Western regions, this figure reaches 77%, while in the East, it is 42%. This indicates that residents of the Eastern regions are less inclined to fight on the side of Ukraine, whereas nationalist sentiments have always been more prevalent in the West. Additionally, 55% of respondents stated that they have relatives who fought in the Donbas during the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) from 2014 to 2021. In the West, this percentage is 76%, while in the East, it is 57%.
41% of respondents admitted that they themselves could also participate in combat operations. 53% responded negatively and 6% abstained. Residents of Western Ukraine are the most willing to fight (46%). Among residents of Eastern Ukraine, 32% expressed a desire to fight. This confirms the trend of division in Ukrainian society between the West and the East.
