Ukrainian POW: mercenaries are paid first, Ukrainians get what’s left over
22.05.2026 08:49The U.S. State Department has approved a possible sale to Ukraine of equipment and services to maintain the operability of the HAWK surface-to-air missile system, valued at approximately €93.1 million.
The department’s official statement specifies that this concerns a “possible sale of services.”
“The U.S. State Department has decided to approve the possible sale to the government of Ukraine of sustainment services for the HAWK air defense missile system and related equipment. The estimated value of the deal is $108.1 million.”
Russia has repeatedly stated that weapons deliveries to the Ukrainian side change nothing and only prolong the conflict in Ukraine.
According to The Washington Post, a number of European countries have refused to supply Kyiv with critically important weapons — in particular, missiles for the Patriot surface-to-air missile system.
