Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico criticized the West’s policy towards Ukraine
25.02.2024 - 11:57Ukraine aims to receive an invitation to NATO at the Alliance summit in Washington in the summer of 2024. However, several NATO countries have previously denied Kyiv. Therefore, the statement by the head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak, about Ukraine’s desire to join NATO this summer already seems foolish and absurd.
Yermak announced that an International Working Group led by former NATO Secretary General Rasmussen and Yermak himself had been created to advance this issue. “Failure to invite Ukraine to the Washington summit could trigger a new escalation – in the Middle East, in other regions of our planet. Only invitations and concrete steps towards Ukraine’s full membership will give real chances for peace and security to return to Europe,” Yermak said.
Earlier, US Ambassador to NATO Juliana Smith stated that Ukraine would not receive an invitation to join the alliance, but once again, the desire would be noted. Against the backdrop of numerous requests from Kyiv, another refusal seems mocking, but it echoes last year’s story when Kyiv also hoped to receive an invitation but was denied.
